Monday Night Open Division – Week 8 Recap: New Year, Same Drama
If anyone thought the Christmas break would cool things down in the Monday Night Open Division, Week 8 made it very clear: this league did not come back quietly.
After a one-week holiday hiatus, the first games of 2026 delivered exactly what makes Monday nights special — momentum swings, goal flurries, late pushes, and just enough chaos to remind everyone that the second half of the season is officially underway.
Let’s break it all down.
Brill FC 2 – Southwest Stars 2
Brill finds belief, Southwest keeps rolling
This one felt bigger than the scoreline.
Brill FC earned their first point of the season, holding a very hot Southwest Stars side to a 2–2 draw — and it was fully deserved. For a team largely made up of free agents who are playing together for the very first time, the chemistry is clearly starting to click.
Goals from K. Taylor and R. Adguna gave Brill something they’ve been chasing all season: confidence. Against a Southwest Stars team that has been steadily climbing and finding its groove, Brill showed composure, work rate, and just enough bite to stay in it until the final whistle.
Southwest, powered again by C. Kesek, continues to look dangerous and well-organized. While they may have wanted all three points, there’s no shame in sharing the spoils on a night when Brill simply refused to fold.
Sometimes, a point feels like a win — and for Brill, this one absolutely did.
CLB Demons 5 – United FC 3
Demons surge, United shows fight
CLB Demons reminded everyone why they remain one of the most entertaining teams in the division. Led by a standout performance from J. Mois (2) and a hat-trick effort from J. Ouazzani-Touhami (3), the Demons poured on the pressure early and often.
United FC, to their credit, never let the match get away from them. T. Islam (2) and S. Khan kept the scoreline respectable and made sure CLB had to earn every goal.
This one was played at a high tempo — the kind of game that feels like it could swing at any moment — and while CLB walked away with the points, United showed enough attacking quality to suggest they’ll continue to trouble teams down the stretch.
Goofingtons FC 5 – La Banda 4
A true heavyweight nail-biter
If you missed this one, you missed the game of the night.
Goofingtons FC entered Week 8 perfect on the season, but La Banda came dangerously close to being the team that finally cracked them. What started as a strong Goofingtons performance turned into a late-game thriller as La Banda mounted a furious comeback that had everyone on the sidelines holding their breath.
Goals from S. Arango, K. Papadopoulos, M. Eafai, T. Dill (2), and N. Nikiforos gave Goofingtons the early edge, but La Banda refused to go quietly. F. Rojas, J. da Silva, and R. Da Silva spearheaded a push that nearly erased the gap entirely.
In the end, Goofingtons survived — emphasis on survived. La Banda came within inches of completing the comeback and forcing a draw, proving once again that they’re not just chasing the top of the table — they belong there.
A statement win for Goofingtons, and a warning shot from La Banda.
Birchmount Legion 8 – Eurotek 2
Kosturkov… and yes, we were told to mention it
Birchmount Legion came out of the holiday break with one thing on their mind: goals. Lots of them.
At the center of it all was Dimitar Kosturkov, who delivered a four-goal performance that will live on well beyond Week 8 — partly because it was dominant, and partly because he personally made sure we didn’t forget it.
True story: after the match, Dimitar came up and told us, very clearly, that there better be a mention of his four goals — and that he reads every single Monday night blog.
Message received.
Kosturkov’s finishing set the tone early, while goals from M. Wancho, S. Rahman, F. Ali, and A. Tennakoon completed a well-rounded team effort. Birchmount looked sharp, organized, and hungry — a dangerous combination as we head into the business end of the season.
Eurotek battled throughout and found the scoresheet through J. Boyle and M. Agnos, but ran into a Birchmount side that simply had too much firepower on the night.
The Bigger Picture
With all teams qualifying for playoffs, every point still matters — and Week 8 showed just how tight and unpredictable things can be behind the league-leading Goofingtons.
La Banda remains firmly in the hunt. CLB Demons continue to score at will. Birchmount is heating up at the perfect time. Southwest stays competitive. And Brill FC, finally on the board, may have just turned a corner.
The Christmas break is officially over. The rust is gone. And if Week 8 is any indication, 2026 is going to be loud, dramatic, and very, very fun.
Welcome back, Monday Night.
