Week 2 Recap: Goals Galore, New Contenders, and Statement Wins
Welcome to the Week 2 recap of the Toronto Markham Soccer Club’s league’s 2025 outdoor season! With summer energy in full swing, teams across all divisions brought passion, flair, and a healthy dose of surprise to the pitch. Here’s everything you need to know from this past week’s action.
⚽ DIVISION A: Slip City Slips Past the Pack
Let’s kick things off with Division A, where Slip City made a serious statement. Their 6-0 defeat of Out of Retirement FC was dominant. M. Stanley bagged a brace while teammates L. Joel, T. Johnson, and D. Grierson joined the fun. They now top the table with 6 goals and none conceded. They take a clean sheet into week 3!
Motion Boys 2.0 also came out swinging with a solid 5-0 win over Stugatz FC, thanks to a hat trick from Ammar Bhatti. DOC Athletics rounded out the trio of 6-point clubs with a strong 6-2 win against Gullit Gang FC, showing they’re a team that can both score and entertain.
Tough luck for Out of Retirement FC and Stugatz FC, both of whom had a rough start to the season. But it’s early days—plenty of time to bounce back.
🔥 DIVISION B1 WEST: Azkals, Slime & Scarborough FC Lead the Charge
In Division B1 West, Azkals FC had themselves a party on the pitch, cruising to a 5-1 win over Wonder Uncs FC. With goals coming from all over—K. Tam, B. Coates, G. Dimac, A. Adamo, and E. Nelson—it was a team performance worth celebrating.
Slime FC kept the momentum rolling too with a 3-1 victory against We Dem Boys. R. Libaque notched a brace and U. Ochiai added one more to seal the deal. Slime’s confident play and chemistry are already making them a team to watch.
Scarborough FC edged out Guanacos FC 2-1 in what was a recent rematch of the Sunday Night Winter Session Division B Playoff Championship, with S. Kaggodaarachchi and J. Corday finding the net in a gritty, well-fought match. It’s shaping up to be a competitive group, with four teams sitting on 3 points already.
⚔️ DIVISION B1 EAST: La Birk FC Launches a Goal Fest
Buckle up, because La Birk FC came out swinging—and scoring. They put up an impressive 8-1 scoreline against Durham United, with B. Libaal and F. Achakzai among the contributors in this goal-heavy display. It’s early, but La Birk is sending a loud message that they’re not just here to play—they’re here to dominate.
Meanwhile, Alianza, FC Kudas, and Pique Blinders also picked up opening wins in style. Alianza took care of business against Unknown FC 4-1, with D. Medley and M. Moise both on the scoresheet. FC Kudas edged Raid FC 3-1 in a tightly contested matchup, and Pique Blinders narrowly escaped Bafana with a 4-3 thriller.
🧊 DIVISION B2: Metro FC & Mad Lads FC Make Their Case
It’s only one week in, but Metro FC is leading the way in Division B2 after a confident 3-1 win over 7 XI FC. Pierre Ferde and A. Herrera impressed, and the midfield looked sharp and organized.
Mad Lads FC also picked up a crucial 2-0 win over Indy FC, with H. Fayed and M. Salman getting it done. Markham United quietly but effectively notched a 2-1 win against Brill FC, and Black Aces earned a tight 2-1 victory over Toronto Phoenix FC in a gritty battle.
Early standings here are tight, but there’s already a sense that any team in this division can come out on top with the right performance on any given day.
🧮 What Do the Standings Say?
With just one week of games in the books for each team, here’s a quick snapshot of the table leaders:
- Division A: Slip City (1st), Motion Boys 2.0 (2nd), DOC Athletics (3rd) — all with 3 points and strong goal differentials.
- Division B1 West: Azkals FC, Slime FC, and Scarborough FC sit tied at the top.
- Division B1 East: La Birk FC’s 7-goal differential gives them the edge, followed by Alianza and FC Kudas.
